Our Heritage
William Fitzjames Oldham arrived in Singapore in 1885 as a missionary and soon founded the Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) on 1 March 1886. Originally located in a shophouse on Amoy Street, it served as both a day and boarding school. In 1888, boarders moved to a new facility, Bellevue, near Orchard Road. Rebuilt in 1897, it was renamed Oldham Hall in 1902 in honor of Bishop Oldham. The Hall relocated to Barker Road in 1926 and was rebuilt in 1985 and again in 2001.
Reopened in late 2002, ACS Oldham Hall now operates as a co-educational boarding house for ACS and other local or international students, maintaining strong ties with ACS (Barker Road) and Barker Road Methodist Church.
Our Progress
a home away from home
Built on Christian Values.
ACS Oldham Hall is run based on our core values (i.e. Integrity, Responsibility, Respect, Humility and Self-Discipline). These are the same values that we impart to our boarders as they live together in a community.
