Our Visions:

The Students’ Council (SC) was conceived in 2005 with the first election held on 24 April 2005. With the responsibility that the Asst House Masters/Mistresses (AHMs) and the boarders have entrusted into our hands, our members will strive to become the link between boarders and staff of ACS Oldham Hall (ACS OH). Being the voice of the boarders, the SC is responsible for encouraging interaction among boarders, regardless of the boundary of nationality or background. Moreover, as to ensure a conducive environment for studying, feedback from boarders is always welcome. Not only the academic results that we are concerned of, but we also want to plan activities wherein boarders can be freely involved in, thus enhancing the quality of their Hall experience.

Ultimately, it is our aim that we can help the boarders create a sense of belonging to ACS OH, and narrow the distance between the staff and the boarders. As the activities are meant for strengthening the bonding among us, it also gives every individual an opportunity to experience leadership. To live, to share and to lead. ACS OH is not only a place to stay, but it is also a home away from home. Thus, our SC, being the connection between the boarders and staff, with the vibrancy and passion of the youth, dedicates our effort to make ACS OH a better place.

Composition of the Student Council
The number of Student Councilors is decided by the SC Advisors in consultation with the incumbent SC. Members of the SC are selected through a process of:

Nomination: Boarders are invited to nominate themselves or their peers at the beginning of the year, generally after the Orientation Games. The Asst House Masters/Mistresses (AHMs) are also asked to encourage boarders to put themselves forward for nomination.

Interviews/Selection: Nominees are interviewed by Advisors and selected members of the current or previous SC. Those who passed the interviews become candidates for the election and they can start their campaign. In general, most nominees will pass the interviews.

Election: After a period of campaigning, boarders and AHMs cast their votes for the people they decided to be members of the next SC. The nominees with the most number of votes will become members of the SC.

The positions within the SC will be filled by the rest of the members in the new SC by consensus among themselves.

Activities of the Student Council
Members of the SC also sit as key members in the Events Committee and the Welfare Committee. The Events Committee is in charge of coming up with events and activities, while the Welfare Committee looks into the welfare of boarders’ lives and related events. The two committees work in tandem and support is mutually received. Some of the activities organized by the SC over the years:
